Apollo 12 was the second lunar landing mission, coming just 4 months after the triumph of Apollo 11. Designed to exercise a pinpoint landing and more robust exploration of the area, the Apollo 12 mission set down in the Ocean of Storms about 200 meters from the Surveyor III probe, which landed in April, 1967.

Featuring the jovial crew of Pete Conrad, Dick Gordon and Alan Bean, the Apollo 12 mission launched into a thunderstorm and was struck by lightning shortly after liftoff. Despite concern for the health of the spacecraft, Apollo 12 was checked out in Earth orbit and proceeded on a successful mission and exploration of the moon.

This 3-DVD set contains the most complete record available of the Apollo 12 mission, with over 12 hours of material, including the complete television transmissions and onboard film, a rebuilt EVA sequence featuring the complete audio from both EVAs reconstructed with television, film, 70mm hasselblad photographs and training footage. You'll also see footage of Alan Bean in the LLRF, hardware checkout, Altitude chamber footage, EVA and crew training, Jet training, work at the pad, astronaut suitup and transfer to the pad, multi-angle launch including spectacular pad camera footage, recovery and the transfer of the quarantine unit off of the U.S.S. Hornet.

DISC 1

PREPARATION

Intrepid Checkout - Flight hardware checkout of LM-6 Intrepid, including the MESA and SEQ bay. Audio from pre-flight press conference with crew.

Altitude Chamber - Prime and backup crew runs in the altitude chamber with the CM and the LM. Audio from pre-flight press conference with crew.

Spacecraft Mate - Mating of the CSM with the SLA and move to the VAB, along with the mating of the spacecraft to the launch vehicle. Audio from pre-flight press conference with the crew.

Rollout & Padwork - Rollout of the launch vehicle to pad 39a, as well as work at the pad leading up to launch. Audio from a pre-flight mission debriefing by mission director Chester M. Lee.

TRAINING

Simulator - Crew outside and inside the CM simulator. Audio from engineering interviews concerning the training program and the color television camera planned for the lunar surface.

Landing Practice - Al Bean at Langley during lunar landing practice, 7-29-69. Audio from an engineering interview on the planned pinpoint landing near Surveyor.

T-38s - Corvettes and T-38s. Oh, and the crew also. Audio from a pre-flight interview with CMP Dick Gordon.

DEPARTURE

Launch Day - Breakfast, suitup, transfer to the pad and ingress. Audio from a pre-flight interview with CDR Pete Conrad.

Launch - Multi-angle launch newly transferred digitally from original pad camera film, beautiful material, as much of the original is 35mm film. Features the complete air to ground and public affairs audio to orbit, flight director's loop audio to orbit and the command module onboard voice recorder of the crew during ascent.

LCC/Pad Damage - Activity in the launch control center prior to launch, and a survey of pad damage shortly after launch. Audio from the post-launch press conference by NASA management.

UNDER WAY

Transposition and Docking - Multi-angle view of the transposition and docking maneuver, including S-IVB tracking after extraction. Angle 1 is television transmission. Angle 2 is the 16mm sequence camera footage, Angle 3 is a composite of both. Audio from air to ground transmissions.

Mission Control - Activity throughout the mission from the mission operations control room. Audio from a pre-flight interview with prime flight director Gerry Griffin. Also contains audio from air to ground during TLI burn.

TO THE MOON

Intravehicular Transfer - Television transmission during translunar coast containing descriptions of lunar gear inside the LM. Audio from air to ground transmission.

Lunar Surface Observation - Television transmission of initial views of the lunar surface. Audio from air to ground transmission.

Undocking - Multi-angle views of the undocking and stationkeeping of Intrepid before descent. Angle 1 features television transmission. Angle 2 shows 16mm sequence camera footage.

Lunar Landing - 16mm sequence camera footage of the descent and landing of Intrepid on the Ocean of Storms. Audio from air to ground transmissions.

EVA 1 - Including the television transmissions, film, and 70mm hasselblad images. After the television is lost, the EVA continues through the use of film, 70mm hasselblad images, map of the crew's activites, checklists, and EVA training footage.
